FamilyLink.com founder reviews Perfect Search Appliance

August 18th, 2010

FamilyLink.com was facing a problem. Its massive database of genealogical records was growing and so was site traffic. In a recent product review, FamilyLink Founder Paul Allen, said Lucene’s free open source search engine worked in FamilyLink’s early days, but as both traffic and the database grew, the “Lucene platform started to have its own performance and financial costs.”

He needed a search engine with a parallel system and one that could handle double the data as the curent system.

The answer was Perfect Search.

Allen pointed out three main strengths of the Perfect Search engine.

  1. Scalability. FamilyLink was able to reduce our query servers from seven down to one, while doubling the amount of data.

  2. Performance. Query performance went from multiple seconds per query to subsecond query speeds.
  3. Drop-In. Replacing Lucene with Perfect search was easy.

“Today, more than 1.6 billion records exist on one server, with an additional server for redundancy. The same 40GB of data that took more than 880 hours to index on Lucene is now indexed in approximately 36 hours by Perfect Search,” Allen said. “CPU utilization seldom exceeds 10 percent at peak query loads.”

Solutions for boosting business productivity

July 23rd, 2010

According to HR Magazine UK, a recent survey of UK workers, indicated that workers waste about 30 hours per week as a result of inefficient tools and resources. One of the biggest problems was the inability to find and share local documents quickly.

With tools like Perfect Search’s products, this sort of inefficient working could be reduced, companies could save money and even use less energy.

Our search engine software enables companies to index database information incrementally and recall data at blistering speed. Documents and information can be indexed across multiple servers through federated searches, using keyword based queries without memory and energy drain.

The old concept of the intranet search is dead and workers are looking for something they can really use. Our innovative search technology combined with the right collaborative tools, might be just the solution businesses need.

As mobile devices become more sophisticated, so does what we expect them to do. For mobile entrepreneurs, mobile devices have to practically become an office on the go. Perfect Search has developed a Windows Mobile device with its exclusive search engine. Since all mobile search is largely focused on internet search technologies, this search engine is unique in that it will be able to index content stored on the device as well as the device’s memory card.

Not only is old content is indexed quickly, but new content is also indexed using Perfect Search’s incremental indexing approach and query responses are returned at blazing speed. The method and speed at which content is indexed and searches precessed, there is little computational demand on the device, which avoids battery drain.

Perfect Search is the first to offer such powerful enterprise search capability for mobile devices. The Perfect Search Mobile Device Search is currently available only on Windows Mobile compatible devices but will be available on Android, iPhone and Symbian devices in the near future.

Perfect Search has Solution for Changes in the No-Fly List Requirements

May 14th, 2010

1103102745_a4f00fc3c4Perfect Search announced today that it has the solution to the new changes now required of airline carriers in relationship to the No-Fly List.  Today, the Obama administration ordered airlines to check their passenger manifest within two hours of receiving notice of a special circumstance about an individual. Previously, airlines were required to re-check the list every 24 hours for matches.

“This requires that each airline must receive the new list from Homeland Security, index that new list, and then look for matches against every passenger manifest of each flight that is departing within the next two hours.  If they miss a name, they could face fines from the US Government.  The complexity and burden placed on airlines could immense,” said Tim Stay, CEO of Perfect Search Corporation.

In the latest terrorism incident, Faisal Shahzad, who is alleged to have tried to blow up an SUV in TImes Square on Saturday evening, was added to the no-fly list early Monday morning, only hours before he boarded a plane to Dubai.

The no-fly list has been in effect since the September 11 attacks, but has required a manual check of the no fly list.  It appears that in the case of Shahzad that Emirates Airlines missed his name, allowing the suspect to purchase a ticket and obtain a boarding pass.

“Perfect Search offers a high precision solution for airlines needing to run their passenger manifest against the No Fly List.  We offer high speed indexing so when new names are added to the list, they can be searched with little delay,” stated Ken Ebert, CTO of Perfect Search.

The Perfect Search solution allows an extra degree of security to make sure that possible matches are flagged and highlighted, allowing airline personnel to manually focus on suspected hits to the No Fly List.

“Not only can we provide the high-speed indexing of new names, but we can search using Soundex and Double Metaphone functionality that allows similar sounding names with different spelling variations to be flagged for further evaluation,” added Ebert.

Perfect Search offers their solution as an appliance that is easy to install and operate.

“The airlines could be operational within days, giving them an extra tool to meet the new   U.S. requirements,” stated Tim Stay, “When indexing and query speed is important, it is important to use Perfect Search.”
